Albert Reinholdt “Al” Martin, 88 of Greeley has moved on to be with God as he passed peacefully alongside his family on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Meadowview Nursing Home in Greeley.
Called “Papa” by countless loving friends and family members, Mr. Martin was born on October 7, 1924 in Kersey, Colorado to Fredrick and Elizabeth (Uhrich) Martin.
Albert served his country during World War II in the South Pacific as a member of the U.S. Army. When the war was over he returned to Colorado and married Helen Geist of Fort Morgan on Jan. 7, 1947. They had three beautiful children that were all raised in Fort Morgan.
Albert worked for 35 years for the Great Western Sugar plant in Fort Morgan. He was a skilled builder, constructing his family’s home in Fort Morgan the early 1950’s by himself, where they would live until moving back to Greeley in 1999.
During his retirement years he enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and continued building hobbies which included furniture and gifts.
Survivors include 2 brothers, Daniel and Lawrence Martin; 2 sisters, Helen Schaeffer and Dorothy Peif; 3 children, Karen Andre and husband Paul of Greeley, Allen “Butch” Martin and wife Robin of Thornton and Gary Martin and wife Pam of Windsor; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Martin in 2008, 6 brothers & sisters & 4 stepbrothers and stepsisters.
A memorial service to celebrate Al’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 S. 11th Avenue in Evans.
