Obituary

Debbie Seychelle (Lantz), 68, of Greeley, passed into eternity on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024.

Debbie was born November 30, 1955 in Denver, Colorado where she attended public school and her family attended Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church. She began taking piano lessons in grade school, and in 1969, the family moved to the San Francisco Bay area for a brief time, returning to Colorado to reside in La Junta, where Debbie continued her junior high and high school education. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed various high school activities, including Drama Club, Madrigals Chorus, and the Speech and Debate Team. Debbie participated in many plays, including the lead roles of Queen in Once Upon a Mattress, and Dolly in Annie Get Your Gun. She graduated from La Junta High School in 1974, and went on to college. Debbie received her Teacher Licensure and BA in Communications with a Minor in Music from the University of Northern Colorado in 1979. In January 1980, Debbie went to Kenya, Africa with the Missions group from Faith Ministries (Greeley), where she witnessed miracles of great healing. Later she attended Grace Fellowship in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she met W. John Kolb. They married in August 1989, and shortly thereafter returned to Colorado. After having their son, Joshua, they decided to raise him in Colorado Springs. Debbie continued furthering her education, becoming a licensed nail technician and taking other classes for fun, including ballroom dancing. Although they divorced, Debbie went on to record her first professional, gospel CD in 2000, entitled Deep Waters. In 2009, Debbie and her family moved to Greeley, and she returned to UNC obtaining her Master of Music degree (Emphasis in Music Education) (magna cum laude) in 2012.

Debbie enjoyed singing and playing impromptu or new songs on the piano adding words in rhyme (or rapping, when there was no piano available). She was pleased to work with Christian groups ministering to others in need via the music ministry. Debbie also liked travelling, watching adventure and sci-fi movies, playing games, and dinner get-togethers with family and friends.

Throughout her life, Debbie was an educator, not just teaching academics and music in public schools, and private music lessons from her home, but for every learning opportunity that presented itself, she would share knowledge and understanding. Likewise, she actively listened to others gaining their perspectives to glean new concepts and understand them. Debbie had a gift to communicate and connect with others. She chose carefully words that would bring life and blessing, to edify, encourage, challenge, strengthen and teach others. Debbie was an outgoing, positive, dynamic and friendly person whose presence will be greatly missed.

Survivors: Debbie is survived by two sisters, Sharon and Christine Lantz of Greeley, Colorado, one brother, Jesse Lantz of St. Louis, Missouri, John Kolb of Greeley, one son, Joshua (Dana) Kolb of Greeley, and two grandchildren, Serenity and Elijah Kolb. She is also survived by several nieces, great nieces and one great nephew, including Ava Page (Chris), George and Isabella Page, Morgan Kendall (Kurtis Brumley), Maddy Brumley, Samantha Lantz (Nick Lang), Juniper and Emberlynn Lang, and Stevie Lantz.
