Obituary

Delia "Dee" Jane Best, 86, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on January 14th, 2024, at North Colorado Medical Center with family by her side.

Delia was born December 13th, 1937, in Gering, Nebraska to Warren and Marydell (Johnson) Capper. She grew up on a farm in Platteville, Colorado with her two sisters Jeanie and Joanie. Delia was a graduate of Platteville High School, Class of 1956, where she excelled in academics and extracurricular activities. She was a member of the FHA, Pep Club, and the Annual and Newspaper Staff. She was also crowned senior Prom Queen. Delia went on to attend the Central Business College in Denver, Colorado.

Delia married Joseph La Rue Best on November 5th, 1961, at the Platteville Methodist Church. Together they had two daughters, Pamela, and Kimberly. They were divorced in 1976 after 15 years of marriage. She dedicated her career to banking, eventually retiring in 2005 from Bank of the West. She also worked at Big R for a short period in her early years, a job she cherished and held dear to her heart.

After retiring, she spent her free time shopping, creating photo albums, organizing her lifelong coin collection, and watching her favorite TV shows. She would ignore phone calls if Dancing With the Stars or the Olympics were on. Her home was her happy place, where she was surrounded with loving neighbors who became lifelong friends. Morning coffee at the clubhouse was often the highlight of her day. Most of all, Delia was a devoted grandmother. She poured every ounce of her love into her grandchildren and played a very special role in their lives. Delia was a selfless, kind, and gentle soul. She will be deeply missed.

Delia is survived by her daughters Pamela Moore & husband Josh, and Kimberly Stephens, grandchildren Akaysha McArdle & husband James, Savannah Stephens, Caleb Moore and Tyler Moore, sister Joanie McCormick, brother in-law Charlie Hodges, and nieces MaryBeth McCormick, Colleen Flannery, and Debbie Laws.

Delia is preceded in death by her parents Warren and Marydell Capper, her sister Jeanie Hodges, her brother in-law Bernie McCormick, and her niece Sherri Hodges Morrell.

A celebration of Delia's life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 11th Avenue in Evans, Colorado.
