Douglas "Doug" Eugene McDowell of Evans, Colorado, passed away at the age of 79 on May 24, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Doug was born May 25, 1945, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Edwin and Madeline McDowell. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1963. He attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, where he received his B.A. degree, majoring in Psychology in 1967. He earned a living working in IT at John Morrel & Co. In 1965 he married his first wife, Dianne Olcott, and together they had three children.

In 1997, he met the love of his life, Cindy, and they married in 2003. Passionate about helping others he continued his education throughout the years and received his Masters in Art, majoring in Community Counseling in 2002. Through his work at North Range Behavioral Health, he became a guiding light for countless individuals, offering comfort, strength, and the wisdom they needed to find their way. After retirement he continued to counsel individuals at his private practice.

Doug was a person whose quiet wisdom, special grace, and warmth touched the lives of all who knew him. A gentle soul unlike any other, he always lent a kind ear and offered sound advice, becoming a source of strength and comfort for family, friends, and even strangers. Doug's life was marked by unwavering generosity of spirit, always willing to give to others without expectation. His presence was a great blessing to all of humanity, imparting lessons of humility, kindness, and patience in every interaction. Whether through simple gestures of love or thoughtful words of counsel, he had a way of making others feel seen and understood.

In his free time, Doug enjoyed gardening, being an active member in his church, reading a good book, mastering solitaire, and spending time with family and friends.

Doug is survived by his wife Cindy; his children; Scott (Jenny) McDowell, Heather (Jason) McDowell-Spelic, Sarah (Mario) McDowell, Jeremy (Laci) Jacks, Josh Jacks, Don Jacks; 8 grandchildren; and two loyal Frenchies, Blue and Coco.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Madeline McDowell.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday May 31, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the First Christian Church, 2230 13th Street Greeley, Colorado, 80631.
