James Ropp was born in 1949, in Sarasota, FL, to Emil & Erma (Kauffman) Ropp. The family later returned to Kalona, Iowa, where James grew up, and helped his father on the family acreage. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite School. In the 1970's James moved his family to Colorado, where he lived for the rest of his life.

James was a beloved father, skilled craftsman, and adventurer. He passed away peacefully on January 1st, 2025, at the age of 75. He leaves behind his three daughters, Jackie, Jenna, and Jamie. James was a man of many passions. He found tranquility in the great outdoors, spending countless weekends camping under the stars. His love for woodworking brought beauty and purpose to his hands, as he crafted pieces that will remain as timeless reminders of his creativity. Growing orchids and other varieties of plants were another of James' joys, a reflection of his ability to find beauty in life's intricate details.

Earlier in life, James took to the skies as a pilot, a career that showcased his adventurous spirit and steady determination. He opened a flight school, called Imperial Aircraft. More recently, he worked for Quick Hitch, a company owned by his good friend Dewey, where he forged lasting connections and continued to make an impact with his dedication and work ethic. James' life was marked by love, laughter, and an enduring zest for all things simple and meaningful. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of James' life will be held on January 20th, 2025, at 2pm at Redemption Church of Greeley, 4100 W 20th Street.

James leaves behind daughters: Jackie (Bret) Shively of Cardiff of the Sea, California; Jenna (Erik) Blais of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Jamie Ropp & daughters Jayden Oltman and Indie Chase Of Fort Collins, Colorado; and two siblings: Juanita (Gordon) Troyer of Kalona, Iowa, and Kim (Kent) Lehman of Kalona, Iowa and many nieces & nephews.

Preceding James in death were his parents, and sister, Vivian.
