Maria Evangelina (Vangie) Guzman, 92, passed away September 25th, 2024, at her home in Platteville, Colorado. She was born December 17, 1931, in Questa, New Mexico to Jose Severo and Maria Teodorita (Romero) Santistevan.
Maria resided in Ault, Colorado for most of her life and eventually met the love of her life Raimundo (Ray) Guzman. The two were married in 1963, and settled in Ault, Colorado.
Maria was a devoted catholic and member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ault. She was also co-owner of Guzman's Groceries in Ault, Colorado for many years. She was known all over northern Colorado for her burritos. People would order several dozen at a time because they were so good. Maria enjoyed singing and dancing, but her most treasured past time was spending time with her kids and grandkids. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Ray, her sons Fred Valdez, Jerry Valdez and Pete Valdez, Greeley. Daughters Marilyn Valdez, Windsor. Debbie Rivera, Lori Valdez, Platteville and Marina (Diego) Gallegos, Denver. A sister Maria Escobar. 31 grandchildren, 40+ great grandchildren and 10+ great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents Severo and Teodorita Santistevan, her sons Richard Guzman and Steve Valdez, her brothers Pete Santistevan, Bobby Santistevan, Arthur Santistevan, and Joe Salazar and her sister Deluvina Damian.
A visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m. Private viewing 4-5. Public viewing 5-6 with Rosary starting at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024, both at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel 3501 11th Ave in Evans, Colorado. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, October 3, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 267 East 4th Street in Ault, Colorado. Interment at Eaton Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to the Pierce Firehouse, 601 2nd Street, in Pierce for a light meal and fellowship immediately following the cemetery services for Vangie.
