Verta "Robi" Mueller

Verta B. “Robi” Robinson Mueller, 96 of Greeley began her new life in heaven on Thursday, June 19, 2012. Robi was surrounded by members of her family and care givers. Respect for her “take charge” quality earned her the title of “Miss Robi” at Life Care Center of Greeley. Her engaging smile and twinkling blue eyes will be etched in the memories of all who knew her. Verta Beatrice Robinson, daughter of Romney and Lavada Robinson, was born on February 23, 1916 as their “homestead baby” in Springfield, Colorado. She attended schools in Springfield and graduated from high school in 1933 at Canon City, Colorado. After high school Verta moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, and worked for four years for the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company leaving them during World War II years to work for Trans World Airlines. From Indianapolis she moved to New York City to live out her dream of working for the airlines and living in the city where she stayed almost 30 years. While in New York, she married Roy McCann in 1955. Verta did not like being called “Verter” by the East Coast folk, so she adopted the nickname of “Robi” short for her maiden name of Robinson. Robi and Roy enjoyed entertaining friends on the weekends at their country home, a 45 minute train ride from the city. Roy passed away in 1959. Robi continued working for TWA and traveling the world until her retirement in 1971. Renewing a friendship with Fred Mueller whom she had known in New York years earlier, romance blossomed and they were married in 1971. They lived in the Gunnison, Colorado area and she remained there after his death in 1980 to continue operating her late husband’s business. She then sold the business and moved to Denver. During her years in Denver, Robi was an active member of the TWA Seniors Club, served as a Tour Director for tours visiting many countries throughout the world and also served as President of the Club. Of all of the countries she visited, China was her favorite and she often mentioned that she would like to make a fourth trip there to see what she had missed before. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers William and Marion, five sisters Edna, Merial, Gladys, Laura and Helen, and a niece, Susan Leigh Siebert. She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews, plus three additional generations of numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved and adored. The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff, especially those in the Safe Harbor Unit, at Life Care Center of Greeley for their loving care of our beloved aunt. Your kindness, gentleness and sincere love will not be forgotten. Funeral services will be held at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel on Tuesday, June 26 at 10:00 am. Interment will be on Wednesday, June 27 at 11:00 am at the cemetery in Springfield, CO. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
