He graduated from Greeley High School in 1964 and obtained his Fire Science Degree from Aims Community College. He served in the United States Navy from 1965-1971. Duane began working for the Greeley Fire Department on January 1, 1972 and was promoted to several positions ending with Division Chief. He retired on July 5, 2001. On May 8, 1973, he married Sylvia Day in Las Vegas, NV. Duane was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 19, 1974 and so began decades of service to Jehovah and to his brothers and sisters assisting any way he could. In the 1990’s he began working with the Regional Building Committee helping to renovate and build new Kingdom Halls. One of his greatest joys was the privileges to assist with the construction of the Aurora Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The project began August of 2011 and completed and dedicated in November of 2012. He and Syl worked fulltime and lived with friends in Denver coming home 2 days a week to take care of local matters and to check on his mother. December of 2015 began another journey and that was with the Local Design Committee in helping to maintain Kingdom Halls. He and Syl worked as a Maintenance Trainer team from the beginning. He enjoyed assisting in training new Maintenance Trainers and always enjoyed overseeing a project. He was safety through and through. He is survived by, his wife Sylvia Scheel of Evans, CO; his mother Mary Meyers of Evans, CO; son, Rudy Duane Scheel of Thornton, CO; a daughter, Shannon Day of Fort Collins, CO; brothers, Larry (Fran) Scheel of Cheyenne, WY, David (Marsha) Scheel of Fort Collins, CO; 3 grandchildren, Alexus Lopez, Brielle Scheel and Jaymen Tanner Scheel; 3 great grandsons, Derek Zayden Scheel, Talon Michael Scheel and Adonis Tanner Scheel He is preceded in death by his father, Floyd I.
