Velda Rae Bucklen
March 26, 1937 - October 24, 2021
Velda Rae Bucklen, 84, of Kersey, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at her home surrounded by family. Velda was born March 26, 1937 in Hardin, Montana, on the Crow Indian Reservation, to Kenneth and Helen (Felker) Davisson. She married Robert Bucklen on January 26, 1958 in Ft Collins, Colorado at Bob’s mother’s home. They were married for 53 years until Bob’s death in 2011. Velda graduated from Windsor High School in 1955 and enjoyed keeping in touch with classmates her entire life. She enjoyed being a member of a variety of clubs and organizations including the Eaton Music Club, the Red Hatters, a dinner group of close friends, and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. She especially loved being a part of the Berean Sunday School class at Bethel Baptist church in Greeley. Bob and Velda shared a love of travelling. Together they travelled to Asia, Africa, Europe, as well as Canada and Mexico. Velda also enjoyed a tour of the Holy Land. Velda greatly enjoyed working as a receptionist and then insurance clerk at the Eaton Family Practice and later at the Greeley Medical Clinic. She always loved talking and working with people. Velda had numerous hobbies and talents. She loved to sing. As a teenager she sang on the radio and at Elitch Gardens in Denver. As a member of the Eaton Baptist Church, she enjoyed singing solos and in the choir. She continued to sing with the choir at Bethel Baptist Church. She was also known to yodel! Her love of singing led her to the Greeley Independence Stampede Troupe where she was a cast member of many favorite musicals. She was an artist in many different mediums—oil painting, tole painting, stained glass, and scrapbooking. She was very interested in genealogy and family history. And, if you knew her at all, you knew she was a great collector of many things: dishes, jewelry, dolls, and antiques. But the favorite thing she collected were the funny and sweet words of her grandchildren. She had a notebook filled with things they said or did throughout the years. She is survived by her daughter Renee Lindgren, grandson Jason Lindgren granddaughter Jenifir (Lyons) and husband Ken Kramer; daughter Shawna and Glenn McClain, grandson Glenn and wife Marisa, grandson Seth, and granddaughter Helen; daughter Sharise and Jim Martinez, grandson Zachary and wife Megan, and granddaughter Anna; daughter Tara and Raul Cruz, granddaughter Lydia, and grandson Liam. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Robin Danette; her son-in-law, Phillip Lindgren; her brother, Noel Davisson; and her sister, Mary Ann (Lake) Boggan.
