Alan Martin "Marty" Meis was born on April 23rd, 1953 in Seattle, WA. Early in his childhood, the family moved to Greeley, Colorado. He attended Greeley West High School, where he participated in choir. In 1971, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for four years.

While working in Rock Springs, Wyoming, he met the love of his life, Halina Maria Samiec, and they were married February 21st, 1981. Their daughter Nicolette Andrea was born August 13th.

He and his family lived in Green River, Wyoming for the next 18 years, and during this time he worked as a concrete batch plant operator. He later ran his own small business selling and installing ramps for both the outdoor enthusiast and the disabled.

In 2002, Alan and Halina moved to Tacoma, Washington, where daughter Niki was attending college. He drove long-haul for the U.S. Postal Service and cared for his wife until her passing from cancer in 2005.

Alan returned to his family's hometown of Greeley, Colorado, and worked as a truck driving instructor until his declining health due to COPD forced an early retirement.

Alan "Marty" Meis was loved by many for his sunny personality and comforting ways. He was called home to God on February 20th, 2016 following a long battle with end-stage COPD and pneumonia.

He is survived by his parents, Kathryn Ella-Jean and Gerald Martin Meis; his daughter, Nicolette Andrea Meis; his two sisters, Jeanette Kay and Anita Michelle Meis, all of Greeley, Colorado; his sister-in-law Cynthia Ann Meis; his nephew Kevin Michael Meis; his niece Michelle Lynn Meis; three great nephews and two great nieces, all of Ft. Collins, Colorado; his brother-in-law Zygmunt Samiec of Douglas, Wyoming; and two nieces, Stefany and Stasy Samiec.

He was preceded in death by his wife Halina Maria Meis and his brother Clarence "Buster" Meis.

A celebration of Alan's life is to be held at Bethel Baptist Church of Greeley, Colorado, on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation checks be filled out to The Lungevity Foundation, in care of Moser Funeral and Cremation Service, 3501 S. 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620.
