Carl Mitchell Brown was born April 12, 1965 in Greeley, Colorado to Richard and Karen Brown. As a student at Eaton High School, he played football and was selected to be on the All-State football team. He also wrestled and went to state his senior year. He graduated co-valedictorian from Eaton High School in 1983. He received the prestigious Boettcher Scholarship and attended the Colorado School of Mines. He graduated in 1987 with a B.S. in Geological Engineering with high scholastic honors and was honored as Outstanding Senior Geological Engineer. During college he helped start the chapter of Campus Crusade for Christ on his campus. He spent his summers traveling to the former Soviet Union to do evangelism. After college, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to communist Romania, 1987-1989. While there, he worked to start a covert campus ministry. The summer before leaving for Romania he met Angela Reinan. On July 28, 1989 Carl and Angela were married in Eaton, Colorado. Together they moved to Deerfield, Illinois where Carl attended Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He graduated in 1992 with an M.A. in Religion. While Carl attended seminary he worked as an engineer (1989-1994) for Harza Engineering Company in Chicago. He always considered his time as an engineer good preparation for a long-term career in missions. In 1990, they welcomed their first daughter, Rebekah Jane (Janey) into their home. In 1992, Kara Leah was born. She was followed by Katherine Jo Anna in 1994 and Isabel Mable Agape in 2002. Carl served as a church planter/theological educator with the Evangelical Free Church of America from 1995 until the present. Carl and his family lived in Kazan, Russia from 1995-2001. During a stint back in the U.S. Carl pursued a Ph.D. in Inter-Cultural Studies at Tinity International University graduating in 2007. From 2005-2008 Carl lived in Kazakhstan where he served in church planting, evangelism and theological education and also was currently, the dean of Central Asian Theological Seminary in Almaty, Kazakhstan. At his death Carl and his family were living in Kandern, Germany. Carl is survived by his wife Angela, Janey (18), Kara (16), Kathy (14), Izzy (6), his parents Dick and Karen Brown of Eaton, CO, his sister Angela Burchett of Naples, FL and her three sons Dylan, Tyler and Blake, his brother Dudley Brown of Greeley and his wife Corina and their children Matthew and Julia and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Thursday evening at 5:00 PM MDT, the Brown family will be receiving guests at the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton a light dinner will be available. At 7:00 PM MDT there will be a time for guests to share remembrances with family and friends gathered. On Friday at 9:30 AM MDT, family and close friends will gather for a graveside service at the Eaton Cemetery. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM MDT at the church with a meal to follow.
