Carol Marie Ruth Loftis, 68, of Eaton, passed away on July 10, 2019 at her home.

She was born on December 25, 1950 in Haxtun, Colorado. Carol was the 4th child of Wallace and Josephine Bruce. Carol cherished the years growing up in Haxtun. She was a proud graduate of Haxtun High School where she was involved in numerous activities in school, community and church. Carol attended the University of Northern Colorado to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. It was at UNC where Carol met Dick Loftis, her husband of 40 years. After graduating from UNC, Carol and Dick married in 1971 and moved to Kremmling, CO where they started their family of 3 children.

In 1978 Carol and Dick moved to Eaton, CO. After sending all 3 kids off to school, Carol restarted her teaching career at Eaton Middle School. A lifelong learner, Carol pursued and received her Masters’ Degree from the University of Colorado in 1999. Carol was passionate about teaching, and she retired from Eaton Middle School in 2016 after teaching multiple grades and subjects for 37 years. Carol loved her time at EMS and was blessed by many wonderful colleagues and students. Carol enjoyed being a part of many communities, and she was blessed by so many wonderful friends through every season of her life. She was an active member of PEO. Carol was fiercely dedicated to her immediate and extended family. She was a beloved Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandma, and Aunt. Carol loved traveling with family and friends, good food, hosting celebrations, and of course Christmas. Carol was guided by her faith in Jesus Christ since she was 5 years old. She was active in multiple Church communities throughout the years. Carol was blessed and she shared her blessing with us.

Carol is survived by her children, Joshua (Melissa) Loftis of Minneapolis, MN, Emily (Russ) Shelton of Dallas, TX, Paul (Lesley) Loftis of Denver, CO, her grandchildren, Elliott Loftis, Maddy, Austin, Brooklyn and Weston Shelton, Lila and Elise Loftis, a brother, Bob Bruce, and sisters, Barbara Brown and Joan Paulson.

She was preceded by her parents, Wally & Josephine Bruce, her husband, Dick Loftis, and her brother John Bruce.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2019 at the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton, 1325 3rd Street in Eaton. Inurnment at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
