Obituary

Charlene "Charlie" Casson, 90, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Grace Pointe Senior Care.

She was born November 3, 1933, in Denver, Colorado to Charles and Bertha (Stevens) Reed. She was a 1951 graduate of Platteville High School. She grew up on the family farm and was active in 4H sewing and cooking, church, and cheerleading. On May 27, 1951, she married Darrell Moote in Platteville, and they lived in Oklahoma City while enlisted in the Air Force. Upon discharge they moved to Southern California. She was a homemaker and mother of 3. Once the children were in school full time, she began working as a bank teller. She was involved in her church and kids activities and also loved square dancing. Many a holiday celebration with extended family were celebrated at her home where inevitably she had created decorations for the occasion. She was a wonderful cook!

In 1971, the family moved back to Platteville and built a home on the subdivided family farm which was now in the town limits. At the time, her parents were winding down with Reeds Roadside Market and her sister was building up the Double Tree Restaurant, so she went to work with family. In 1974, she moved to Greeley and began working at First National Bank, working her way up to administrative assistant. Mom had a love for watching and playing sports and it was at this time that she pitched for the bank sponsored slow pitch softball team.

On June 6, 1982, she married Truman Casson, Jr. in Virginia City, Nevada and his job as a contract engineer took them to Sacramento, Phoenix, and Seattle. She began her own business, CharTru Enterprises, so that she could sell her crafts, patterns and quilts at Craft Expos around the US. After he retired, they moved back to Platteville, but she continued her crafting business for the rest of her life. Every family member has been a recipient of something Charlie made for them. After Truman's death she moved to Windsor and lived there for 21 years.

She enjoyed league bowling and would travel to different cities each year to the National Bowling Convention. She was recognized for 30 years of attendance. She worked as an usher for the Rockies for 15 years and baseball was her favorite sport to watch! She also joined a church bell choir a few years ago. She was not afraid to try something new.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Moote of Windsor, a daughter, Anice (Lynn) Young of Greeley, a brother, David (Sue) Reed of Parker, sisters, Shirlee Davis of Platteville and Katie Cook of Longmont, 5 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents, Chuck and Bertha Reed, husband, Truman Casson Jr., son, Larry Moote and daughter-in-law, Brenda Moote.

A celebration of Charlie's life will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, 11 am, at Cornerstone Community Church, 1321 9th Avenue in Greeley, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dementia Together at dementiatogether.org. or the Cornerstone Community Church at csgreeley.org.
