Obituary: Charles Richard Winter, Sr.

Charles Richard Winter Sr. was born in Eaton, Colorado on March 18, 1930 to Fred and Mary Winter. On April 15, 1950, he married Eleanor Herdt and they were married for 56 years.
Mr. Winter was raised in Eaton and Pierce and attended schools in Pierce and Galeton.
A lifelong farmer, Mr. Winter began farming in 1950 in Pierce and moved with his family to Fort Morgan in 1951 where he continued to farm. In 1959, he and his family returned to Eaton and continued farming. Over the years, he won several High Ten Beet Growers Awards. He retired from farming in 1991 but continued to help his son and grandson.
He was a member of the Eaton Country Club, a member of the Evans Moose Lodge, a member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, a past member of the Eaton Lion's Club and served on the Board of Directors for the Mountain States Beet Growers Association. He enjoyed polka dancing, listening to polka music, gambling and spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Winter died of a heart attack on Monday, September 8th
Survivors: A Son, Charles Winter Jr and wife Charlene of Eaton Two Daughters, Lori Winter of Fort Collins and Karla Winter-Brisendine and husband Mike of Eaton. Three grandchildren: Katie Mussman and husband Steven of Evans, Gabe Winter and fiancée Hayley Goode of Eaton and Emily Brisendine of Eaton. And great-granddaughters Adaline Mussman and Allison Mussman. A brother Melvin and wife Leona of Ault. A God son, Dustin Winter of Ault and sister's-in-law Claudia Winter of Greeley and Jeanette Winter of Cortez. A special friend Arlene Propp of Fort Collins.
Preceded in death by: His parents, a sister Lillian Schlagle, brothers Wilbur, Kenneth, Eddie and Dale and his wife Eleanor.
Services: 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 12, 2008 at the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton located at 1325 3rd Street in Eaton. A private internment at Eaton Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Visitation: From 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Friday at the church.
