Christine “Chris” Smallwood, 78, of LaSalle CO met her Lord and Savior Thursday October 15, at Pathways Hospice in Ft. Collins.

She was born on February 13, 1948 in Greeley to Herman and Patricia (Meeker) Smallwood and graduated from Greeley High School in 1967.

Chris lived and attended school in Greeley until 1974 when the family moved to LaSalle. Chris loved school, babysitting her younger cousins, Girl Scouts and was featured in many newspaper articles involving programs for disabled children as she was born with cerebral palsy. As a child she loved riding horses, the mountains, picnics and reunions with her family.

She was a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary Post 6624 in Evans. She loved making latch hook rugs for friends and family. Chris was a member of the First Baptist Church located across the street from her home in LaSalle. She enjoyed Sunday School with the children, participating in Church related lunches and when able bringing refreshments, but most importantly the many friends she made along the way. She was a woman of unwavering faith whose love for Jesus Christ defined her daily life and inspired all who knew her. Her smile and laugh will be forever etched in our hearts.

After her mother’s passing in 1998, even with her physical challenges and her positive attitude, Chris stayed in her family home independently, an inspiration to us all. She always wanted to have a companion pet and several years ago chose her little dog Cocoa who filled her life with much joy and love. In 2025 she moved to Life Center in Greeley.

Granddaughter of Perry and Julia (Young) Smallwood, Lloyd “Pee Wee” and Ethel (Tann) Meeker, her parents are deceased. She is survived by an uncle and aunt and many cousins and loving friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Moser Funeral Service Chapel, Evans. Internment will be held immediately following the service at the Eaton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the “VFW Post 6624 Women’s Auxiliary” in Evans CO c/o Moser Funeral Home.
