Cindy Lou DeBrine (Mentzer), 67, of Briggsdale, CO passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024 in her home. Cindy was born in Waynesboro, PA on August 2, 1956 to Clyde William Mentzer and Verdell (Skip) Olive Roundy. She was the second of five children.
Cindy moved around quite a bit as a child due to her fathers work with United Airlines. Cindy, her older brother Daniel and younger sister Julie were all born in Waynesboro, PA. They moved to Fairfax, VA in 1958. Two years later in 1960, they moved to Sycamore, IL where her brother Luke was born. Just a year after that in 1961, they moved to Rochester, NY where her youngest brother William was born. They spent two years there and again moved in 1963, to Carpentersville, IL. Three years later they moved one last time settling in Broomfield, CO in 1966. There she made a lot of friends and later met her future husband, Timothy DeBrine. Cindy couldn't wait to be out on her own dropping out of high school shortly before graduation in order to start her new life with Timothy. They would marry later that year in November 1974. Cindy did go on to receive her GED after marriage.
Cindy remained in the Lafayette/Broomfield area and welcomed their first child Timothy Stephen in 1976. In 1978, she lost her father to a car accident which she took extremely hard. It took her a long time to get back to normal. She never really got over the loss unfortunately. By 1980, using the money they had saved and they money they received from her fathers passing they were able to purchase their first home outside of Longmont, CO. In 1984, they welcomed their second child Carisa Lee. During the mid to late 70's and all through the 80's Cindy was avidly riding and showing her horses. She placed many times at the horse shows. In 1989, due to unforeseen circumstances they lost their house. Luckily they were able to retain the 32 acres from the house to keep their horses on. Sadly in 1991, Cindy was in a horrible car accident that wrecked her back and left her unable to ride horses anymore. After renting for a number of years and moving in and around Longmont they were able to purchase their next home outside of Mead, CO in 1996. They remained there until 2006 when they moved and purchased their final home east of Briggsdale, CO.
Cindy had numerous jobs over the years. She worked at Woolworths and babysat as a teenager. She worked at Wedge-It with Timothy for a while. She worked at Lange where they made ski boots until the company moved to Italy. She worked at Hines Lumber doing sales and inventory. She was also working evenings at a bakery and doing a paper route for the Denver Post at that time. She moved on to be a receptionist for copier and supply after that and had a USA Today paper route. From there she started her own house cleaning business called A Step Above The Rest which she ran for many years. She then went on to do phone sales for Colorful Images while getting her own online gift basket business up and running just as the internet was starting to boom, she called it Basket Delights and did quite well. She also had a little side business called Pampered Critters Pet Care she ran for a couple years around that time as well and a second go around with USA Today paper route too. After moving to Briggsdale she worked at the K-12 school as head custodian for several years and ran a Greeley Tribune paper route for a year or so in there. Cleaning was taking a toll on her back so she left and did telemarketing for TeleTech for a short while and finished off with stocking shelves at Walmart before retiring in 2017.
Cindy had many loves in life. When she was younger she wanted to be an actress. She used to put on skits for the neighborhood with her siblings. She even took some acting classes but went a different route after marriage. Cindy loved to sing. She loved her animals. She always had a farm filled with horses, cows, pigs, chickens, cats and dogs. She loved her Pittsburg Steelers. She loved her children and grandchild. She was very much looking forward to her second grandchild but passed just before he was born. She loved to cook. She loved to read. She loved to watch movies and loved trying and learning new things.
Cindy was preceded in death by her grandparents Clyde and Verna Mentzer, Delbert and Olive (Moats) Roundy, her parents Clyde Mentzer and Verdell Roundy, her husband Timothy DeBrine and older brother Daniel Mentzer. She is survived by her son, Tim (Carmela Napoli), daughter, Carisa (Cory Jackson), two grandsons, Emmitt and Everitt Jackson, two brothers, Luke (Joyce) Mentzer, William Mentzer, sister, Julie (Randy) Fabrizio, nieces and nephews, Luke Mentzer Jr., Joshua (Victoria) Mentzer, Clyde Mentzer and Sarah Ortega.
Per her request Cindy was cremated. Her ashes were buried next to her husband Timothy in his family plot in Luna, NM. A celebration of life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024 at East Memorial Park in Greeley.
