Obituary

Dorothy "Jane" Swearingen was born to Kirk R. and Dorothy B. Radmore in Lincoln, NE on Oct. 19.1922. She died with her family around her in her home on Nov. 6, 2007 . She grew up in Lincoln with her parents and four siblings, loving Lincoln and all that it was. Jane was always very patriotic, and during World War II worked at the Army Surplus Store. She also worked for several years at Elgin Watch Co., and at Gold's Department Store. Jane married William R. Swearingen in 1952. They raised 3 children together until Bill was killed in an accident in 1974. She never remarried. Jane and her family lost two homes in the great depression, and a result of those experiences made her to be very sensitive to waste and people in need. Her home was open, always, to any and all of her children's friends, even taking some in when there was hardship in their homes. She wasn't a member of any clubs or organizations, but devoted all of her time to her family. In that role she did serve as Room Mothers in her kids classrooms, was on PTA, and supported every activity her children and grandchildren were in. She loved spending time at their family cabin on a lake at South Bend, NE. Jane spent every winter in Greeley where her 2 daughters and all of her grandchildren lived for 12 years, and made Greeley her permanent home in Nov. of 2005. She loved the mountains and rivers of Colorado, the beautiful autumn season and the lack of humidity. During her years and months in Colorado, Jane was a regular attender of Tree of Life Presbyterian Church in Boulder. She dearly loved her church family. As a little girl, her grandmother gave Jane the nickname "Sunshine". She displayed her "sunny" disposition her whole life, showing kindness and caring to everyone she met. Every one was a friend to Jane. Jane is survived by her son, William Swearingen from Lincoln, NE; two daughters, Ann Schluter and Kristi Opp Kilpatrick, and her husband Larry Kilpatrick from Greeley; stepdaughter Pam Gates from West Hollywood, CA; grand-daughter Natalie Mash and her husband, David; grandsons Michael Schluter, J. Ryan Opp, and J. Steven Opp of Greeley; step grandson Josiah Kilpatrick and his wife, Nicole; great grand-daughter, Cecily Grace. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Swearingen; her parents, Kirk and Dorothy Radmore; her two brothers, Kirk "Reese" Radmore and Richard Daniel "Bill" Radmore; her two sisters Mary Turnbull and Virginia Herstein; and her son-in-law Kevin Opp. SERVICES IN GREELEY, CO: A funeral service to celebrate Jane's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at St. Patrick Presbyterian Church, 803 10th Avenue in Greeley.
