Darrel lee Parker, of Evans, was born June 4, 1952 and died on Valentine’s Day, 2017 at 64 years old. It was a fitting day to die for a man who had the heart of a lion.

He was born in Galeton, Colorado to Vance and Ellen Parker, the middle child of five brothers and one sister. Darrel joined the Navy at age 17, where her served in Vietnam, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. It was while in basic training in San Diego that he began his lifetime love of the ocean.

He was an amazing artist, a MacGyver and inventor, and loved to tell stories of his incredible adventures. He was a singer and got to fulfill his dream of singing in a rock band while in California. He would give anyone the shirt off his back, and was always a defender of the helpless and innocent.

He met and fell in love with his wife Kathryn Neumeyer Parker in 1981. To Darrel she was always “Kat.”

He is survived by his wife, brothers Dave, Dale and Dan, and sister Debra Martin. He is also survived by numerous nephews, niece and great nephews and nieces.

He was proud of his Cherokee heritage and died a warrior’s death.

A small graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2017 for immediate family only.

A celebration party will be held on February 25, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at The State Armory, 614 8th Avenue in downtown Greeley. Everyone is welcomed. Wear jeans and a headband and be ready to hear AC DC.
