David William Sweet, 62, of Greeley passed away on June 30, 2016 at his home.
He was born February 2, 1954 to Bill & Elsie (Burenheide) Sweet in Greeley, Colorado. He attended school in Greeley and graduated from high school in Haxtun, Colorado in 1972.
Growing up, David was active in boy scouts, Longs Peak Counsel in Greeley and the scout camp in Red Feathers. After high school, Dave owned and operated a trucking business “Sweet Trucking” hauling grain. David also worked at Bartlett Grain Co. & Ed Duggan, the stock exchange in Kansas City as a grain merchandise and heavy equipment operator throughout the Greeley area. In 2006, Dave and Gail owned and operated 9 Fed EX routes from I-25 to the Estes Park area, retiring in 2015.
Dave had many hobbies which included playing cribbage, outdoor cooking, camping, fishing, and hunting with his dogs. He also loved a good conversation, had many friends and was a stranger to no one. Dave always had a brother/sister, niece/nephew or grandchild in tow. He was a mentor to all. He loved feeding the ducks and eating ice cream at midnight with the grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Gail, his mother, Elsie, children, Shawn Piantoni, Tracey Hitner, Billi Jo Reinhardt, siblings, Tony, Scott, Marc & Christy, Chris & Janice, Joe & Sue, Cindy & Jerry Wernsman, and Suzanne & Jim Stanley, 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Sweet, and his grandparents.
A celebration of David’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Gloria Christi Church, 1322 31st Avenue in Greeley.
