David Varela, 55, of Greeley, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at his home.

He was born in Greeley to Lucarido & Placida (Gallegos) Varela. He graduated from Platte Valley High School, and he enjoyed working for Xcel Energy.

He is survived by his wife Denise (Benavidez) Varela, of 21 years. (married at Loveland Wedding Chapel on August 24, 1996); his son, Jimmy Lee Varela, 2 daughters, Hosanna and Hannah Varela, 5 brothers, Willy (Hela) Varela, Bob Varela, Billy Varela, Randy Varela, and Mitch (Vicki) Varela, 2 sisters, Irene (Alfred) Silva and Sally (Tony) Luna, Dave has 2 grandchildren with one on the way, plus 23 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Roy Varela and his sister, Patsy Varela.

Dave will always be remembered for his love and devotion to his wife and children. His family was his greatest accomplishment. Friends and family would describe Dave as an awesome basketball player, he was in it to win it. Or like his son would say “One on One” Dad!

I thank God for Dave, he has been a blessing to me as well as making all my dreams come true. We love you and will never forget what a good husband and father you have been. “And the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one” Mark 10:8.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017 at The Upper Room Ministries 919 18th Avenue in Greeley. A reception will follow.
