Carl Donald "Don" Beckman was born in Freedhem, Minnesota on July 11, 1926 to Christian parents and accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age. He served in the Army during World War II in Austria after which time he chose a career as a bricklayer. In July 1958 he married Beverly Jean Gillson and moved to Greeley, Colorado where he worked for most of his career. His most well-known structure is the serpentine wall on the northeast corner of 20th Street and 23rd Avenue built in 1985. Combining his faith and his career was a defining feature of his life and he made 9 mission trips to foreign countries to help build churches and an orphanage. He will be remembered as a greeter at Mtn. View Church where his handshake was looked forward to each week. He was an avid game player and loved the Colorado Rockies. He passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 16, 2011 at the Hospice Unit of North Colorado Medical Center. He is survived by his wife Beverly and her brothers Harold (wife Irene) and Marvin (wife Alice); son David and his wife Connie of Oak Grove, Minnesota; daughter Julie-Ann and her husband Michael Jordan of Castle Rock, Colorado; six grandchildren Nathan, Noah, Rachel and Hannah Beckman and Taylor and Alexys Jordan; brothers Elmer and his wife Florence, Herbert and his wife Joyce, James and his wife Barbara, and sister Evelyn and her husband Ivan Holst; and a host of nieces, nephews, loving friends, and "adopted" grandchildren. He is preceded by his parents Carl Herbert Beckman and Alice Ellison Beckman, sister Ruth and nieces Roxanne and Peggy. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 22 at 10:30am at Mountain View Church, 6253 W 28th Street.
