Donald G. Auld, 85, of Greeley, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born August 22, 1927 in Otis, CO. Don and wife Ruby were married 49 years. She passed away on April 25, 2012. Don grew up in rural Weld County and graduated from Greeley (Central) High School in 1945. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 31 months overseas in Sasabo, Japan. When he completed his service duties, he returned to Weld County and pursued his love of his craft of woodworking. Don was a master carpenter and worked for John Keyser for over 30 years building homes all around the Greeley area. Their biggest project was Toddy's Shopping Center and the restaurant formerly known as "Potato Brumbaugh's. Don also worked for Doug Lockhart of Lockhart Construction and ended his carpentry career at the age of 82. Don was not all work and no play. He and Ruby spent several winters as "snowbirds" in Arizona. When it got too hot there, they came back to the mountains around Red Feather Lakes where Don loved to fish. He also loved time with his family and the special spring break trips he took with his grandson, Alex. Don is survived by his daughter, Kerrie Steinbach, and her husband, Michael, and grandson, Alex of Wiggins. He is also survived by his sister Ruth Blanton of Ridgecrest, CA sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence Johnson, Rudy and wife Judy Schlotthauer and Ronnie Schlotthauer, all of Eaton, CO. Several nephews and nieces will also be missing their "Uncle Don". Don had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and had been living at Garden Square at Westlake. No services will be held. Instead, the family is planning a gathering for celebration and sharing of Don's life, in the near future.
