Donald Goin of Kersey passed away on March 9, 2012 at the Hospice unit at NCMC in Greeley. Don was born February 2, 1934 and raised in Flagler, Colorado, where he attended the Flagler schools; he played basketball, which was his favorite sport. He worked at the local movie theatre and case dealership while attending school. Don married Ethel Taylor in June of 1954; they had four children, Charles, Allen, Mary Jo and Danny. They moved to the Colorado Springs area after they were married. He was drafted into the army in 1957 and was sent to Fort Hood Texas for Basic Training, and then to Fort Lewis Washington where he was stationed until being deployed to Korea. He served from 1957 till 1959. He then returned to the Colorado Springs area where he started his own Heating and Air Conditioning business, and then later worked for Perkins Motors. He operated dairies in the Ellicott area for a number of years. In 1976 he moved to the Briggsdale area, where he worked for Agland driving fuel trucks to the area farmers. In the fall of 1977 after moving to Kersey he and Betty Wright bought a semi truck and started trucking for North America Van Lines until 1989. He sold the trucks, and then he and Betty started driving for Frontier Produce out of Greeley, which was later sold to Western Transportation out of Denver. They continued driving for Western until April of 2004, when he retired from driving because of a back injury. Don and Betty were married in Kersey on August 8, 1999. They spent many happy years together working side by side. He loved watching western movies, especially John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and Glenn Ford with his friends especially his Hospice Friends who visited him often. Don loved gardening. He also liked to do woodworking. He loved to go camping and hunting in the mountains. He loved teaching people how to fix different things. He loved to tell and play jokes on people and hear good jokes with his friends. He also enjoyed sharing stories from his youth with the younger generations of his family. He is survived by his wife Betty, of Kersey, CO, 4 children; Charles Goin (Marsha) of Pueblo, Allen Goin (Natalie) of Ellicott, Danny Goin (Kerri) of Silt, CO, a daughter Mary Jo Lance (Shane) of Cedaredge, CO. Also survived by Harvey Wright (Laurie) of San Antonio, TX, Ronald Wright of Brighton, CO, David Wright (Rhonda) of Greeley, CO, and Justin Wright of Greeley, CO. He is also survived by brothers, James Goin of Colorado Springs, and Dean Goin (Sandy) of Colorado Springs, and Sister Betty Jo Cliffton of Colorado Springs, and Fifteen Grand Children, and Nine Great Grand Children. His parents Kenneth and Abby (Logan) Goin are both deceased. The family sends a very special thank you to the Hospice family that Don came to know and love, Melanie, Lori, Rick and Bob. They all spent a lot of time with Don during this last year, he enjoyed their company. Don will be sadly missed by all that had the blessing of meeting him. A memorial service to celebrate Don's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Grace Community Bible Church located at the S.W. corner of Hwy. 85 and 31st Street in Evans.
