Obituary

Donald H. Kestler, 78, of Greeley, died on Friday, November 9, 2007 at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. Mr. Kestler married Leota J. Sukey in Denver in 1950. They also lived in Thornton and moved to Greeley in 1987. He was born on February 22, 1929 in Holyoke, Colorado to Clarence and Dessie (Hollingsworth) Kestler. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1949. Donald worked for most of his life as a meat cutter, a trade he learned from a German butcher in Sterling. He later moved to Commerce City where he worked in small butcher shops before he went on to work for Safeway Distribution Center Meat Plant from 1960 until 1985. Later he went on to work as a Security Officer for North Colorado Medical Center & Bonell Good Samaritan Center. Survivors include his wife Leota Kestler of Greeley; a daughter and her husband Marlene & Dan Yocom of Eaton, Colorado; a granddaughter and her husband Stacie L. & Chris Clayton of Thornton, Colorado; two sisters, Dessie Buccholz, of Julesburg, Colorado and Norma Jean Springer of Fort Morgan, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters; Clara Boro, Nellie Thrasher, and Ellen Hansen. A memorial service to celebrate Donald's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Lighthouse Community Church, 307 S. 3rd Street in LaSalle.
