Donna Lee Bachenberg, 89, of Greeley passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Bonell Good Samaritan Center.
She was born on April 23, 1927 to Hubert and Mona (King) Spohn in Superior, Nebraska, but was raised in Chester, Nebraska. She graduated from Chester High School in 1944 and went on to Nebraska Wesleyan University from which she graduated in 1948. Immediately after graduating from University, Donna married the love of her life, Dean Bachenberg, in Chester, Nebraska on June 13, 1948. The chancellor of NWU officiated at their wedding. Before starting their family, Donna worked as a medical technologist in various hospitals in the Beatrice, Nebraska area.
Donna and Dean were blessed with a son, Thomas Dean, in 1954, and a daughter, Karen Sue in 1957. As a stay at home mom, Donna spent her life devoted to her family. In her younger years, Donna was a very active member of the United Methodist Church. She was president of her church circle. She loved volunteering at her children’s schools and was constantly driving kids to one activity or another. Donna was present at all her kid’s events. She loved to play the piano, knitting, sewing, reading, playing bridge and taking care of grandchildren. Donna never knew a stranger. A trip to the grocery store could take hours!
She was self-less, incredibly kind, loving and understanding. She was always willing to listen and help wherever and whenever needed. Donna was an incredibly strong Christian woman who will be forever missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and be loved by her.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen McGrail (John Pitman) of Greeley, CO, daughter-in-law, Bea Bachenberg, of Greeley, CO, a brother, Marion W. Spohn of Rochester, MN, 4 grandchildren, Carl Bachenberg, Carrie Anderson, Kellie Hladun (Ken), Katie Raiola (Thomas), and 3 great grandchildren, Kaden Anderson, Jaxon Raiola, and Kolette Raiola.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert & Mona Spohn, her husband, Dean Bachenberg, a son, Thomas Bachenberg, and a sister Ramona Zaghi.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 917 10th Avenue in Greeley, Colorado. Inurnment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Linn Grove Cemetery.
