Obituary

Douglas Roy Bliss, 75, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026.

He was born on February 25,1951, in Gothenburg, Nebraska to the late Roy and Lois (Ray) Bliss. Doug was a man of deep faith, committed to his family, work, and the church. Doug graduated in 1969, from Fremont High School and was inducted into the Fighting Tigers Hall of Fame for pole vaulting. The University of Northern Colorado is his alma mater where he earned his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees.

Doug was employed at GoJo Sports for over forty years, leading and managing the graphics design services department. Doug is credited with the logo design for the USA's 1984, inaugural Olympic Baseball Team and was later a key note speaker at an industry leading graphics design conference. Doug continued to contribute civically throughout his life and served as President for the University of Northern Colorado's Alumni Association.

Within the parish, Doug led Trinity Lutheran Church's Sunday school classes for children and weekly men's bible study. Doug cherished his role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather ("Jampa"). He was always excited to share a story and create lasting memories with them.

Doug and Jeanne (Copes) Bliss were married on March 15, 1981, in Greeley, Colorado.

As a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, located in Greeley at 3000 35th Avenue, will hold a memorial service to the glory of God on Saturday, April 11 at 11:00 a.m. with a eulogy luncheon and celebration of life to follow.

Doug is survived by his wife, Jeanne Bliss of Greeley; sons, Kai (Sabrina) Fornes of Apalachicola, Florida, Koa Fornes (Kathy Sue Moe) of Greeley, Matt (Lee) Bliss of Greeley; granddaughters, Logan (Rhakim) Fornes-Smith, Kristianna Killam, Sidney Bliss, Hazel Fornes, and Althea Bliss; and brothers, David (Marcia) Bliss, Robert Bliss, and Thomas Athy.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline (Bliss) Athy.

Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Trinity Lutheran School in Doug's memory.

Doug will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, dedication, and faith will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. In the words he liked to say at the end of the day, "and when the morning light comes streaming in, I'll get up and do it again. Amen."
