Edith “Edie” Marie Dunson entered into eternal life on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Hospice of Northern Colorado at age 75.

She was born on April 27, 1939 to Sekice and Martha Robison in Okemah, OK. She was raised and went to school in Okemah.

On June 26, 1958, she married Louis “Louie” Dunson. Once married, they lived a short time in Okemah before moving to Brush, CO, where they lived for ten years. In September 1969, they moved to Greeley, CO. They have called Greeley home for the past forty-five years.

She worked for the telephone company in Ft. Morgan, transferring her job to Greeley. After a thirty-two year career with the phone company, Edith retired from U.S. West.

Edith and Louis raised their two sons in Greeley. While living and working there, she developed a love for the game of golf. Edith and Louis could be found many days of the week at the golf course playing. Louis taught Edie how to play and she became a very accomplished golfer. She won the ladies club championship six times. She won three-time Match Play Champion at both courses as well as a three time ladies senior champion. The game of golf took them to surrounding states where Edith won six of inter-tribal tribal tournaments. She not only played from the same tee markers as the men but could hit the ball as far as most of them and beat them on many occasions. She had three hole-in-ones throughout her years of playing. Two were in tournaments.

Edith was a big fan of Oklahoma football. She watched the OU Sooner every Saturday they were on television, making a few games in person over the years. She was also a Denver Broncos fan. If she wasn’t on the golf course on a Sunday afternoon, she was home watching them.

Not only did she love the game of golf and watching sports, she loved to sew, making many quilts as gifts for various family members and friends.

The true love of Edith’s life was her family, husband, Louis, her sons, her grandchildren and her extended family. Each one held a special place in her heart. If she wasn’t doing something with them, she was doing something for them. She and Louis spent many of their vacations in the state of Oklahoma visiting her sisters and their families. She truly enjoyed her retirement years. Between family her hobbies, Edith’s life was lived to the fullest. Her family takes comfort that she is now with those she loved who have gone on ahead.

Edith is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Louis; two sons, Bill and Patrick; grandchildren, Matthew (Lindsey), Danielle (Steve), Keegan and great-grandchildren, Ayden and Remi. A third great-grandchild is due to make his entrance into the world in November. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Sekice and Martha; two sisters, Irene and Kiddie Ruth and two brothers, Kenneth and Samuel.

A funeral service was held 11 a.m., Monday, October 13, 2014, at Greenleaf Indian Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenleaf Cemetery.
