Obituary

Ellen Yvonne “Vonnie” Ottoson, of Greely, Colorado went home to be with her Lord and Savior July 1, 2026, after a long battle with dementia. She was born February 5, 1938, in Madill, Oklahoma to Floyd O. Story and Helen M. (Still) Story.

Vonnie attended schools in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas and Colorado. She graduated from Sterling, Colorado in 1956. Vonnie was active in Pep Club, choir, band and cheerleading.

After graduating high school, Vonnie moved to Greeley to attend Cosmetology School. While in school, a fellow classmate introduced her to the love of her life, Lynn.

They soon got married and moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina, where Lynn was serving in the Army. When Lynn was discharged, they returned to Eaton, Colorado, where Lynn started farming and they started their family. Their son, David, was born and four years later a daughter, Tammy.

Vonnie’s love for the Lord also led her to be very active in church. She was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir as well as being in a trio, and became very involved with Christian Women’s club. She loved teaching God’s Word and being a leader in women’s ministries. She was always praying for her family and friends and those in need.

Vonnie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She dearly enjoyed the times spent with her family. There were precious times around food and laughter. Lynn and Vonnie spent 68 years together in marriage and have left a wonderful legacy for their family.

She is survived by her husband, Lynn of Greeley; a son, David (Shari) Ottoson, of Eaton; a daughter, Tammy (Greg) Roth, of Greeley; grandchildren, Jessica Roth of Greeley, Lindsey (Nathan) Seils of Greeley, Trent (Dani) Ottoson of Parker, Mitchell (Darcy) Ottoson of Parker, and Aubrey Ottoson of Greeley; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Greyson Ottoson, Matthew Seils, and Ellie, Beckham and Emma Ottoson; a sister, Sharyle Johnson of Hinton, Oklahoma; a brother, Mike (Dee) Story of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; and many other extended family members.

The family would also like to thank Dee Pfleiderer and Norma Quinonez for their loving caregiving and Pathways Hospice for all their support.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton, 1325 3rd Street in Eaton, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vonnie’s name to the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton; Samaritan’s Purse, https://www.samaritanspurse.org/our-ministry/donate-online/; or to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, IFCJ.org.
