Frederick Samuel Ploegstra, born in Barbeau, Michigan November 4, 1933, left this earthly life on March 13, 2024, in his home in Greeley, CO.
Born to Samuel and Ester Ploegstra. Began his long service to this country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in December 1953, served as a truck driver in Korea with the 7th Motor Transport Bn, 1st Marine Division, honorably discharged in November 1955. Was married to Carolyn Davelaar, of Sioux Center, IA from August 1957 to November 1977. Attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI for his GED, Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA and Northwestern College in Orange City, IA where he graduated with a BA degree. He lived in Rock Valley and Sioux Center, IA where he taught in the Christian schools. Moved to Denver, CO in 1966 where he became an instructor for the Air Force at Lowry Air Force Base until his retirement in 1992.
He moved in Rudyard, MI following retirement, cared for his mother Esther till her death in 1999, Fred enjoyed snowmobiling with his friend Dave Folkersma and restoring old farm tractors. A member of Rudyard Christian Reformed Church, until moving back to Colorado to live with his Son, Joel, in Greeley, CO.
He is survived by his daughters Cheryl, Barbara and Jayne, and sons Steven, Joel and John, his brothers Harold and Robert and sister Marilyn, his 10 Grandchildren and his Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Esther, his brothers Eugene and Andrew and his sisters Elizabeth Doll and Ardith Heemskirk.
