Gareld (Gary) Eugene Lohnes was born September 26, 1935 in Sedalia, Missouri to Edgar and Doris (Vanderlinden) Lohnes. He died July 27, 2013 at Kenton Manor in Greeley after a long illness. Gary was active in Smith-Cotton High School sports, excelling as a long distance runner, and he graduated in 1953. He worked as a utility arborist, in many western states, his entire adult life; employed by some of the nation's largest tree care companies: Davey, Asplund, Nelson and Wright. He loved auto racing and was an active racer/driver at Beacon Hill in Pueblo, the Colorado National Speedway in Erie and Fort Morgan raceway in Fort Morgan. He followed NASCAR closely. Jeff Gordan was his favorite driver. He also enjoyed "antiquing", flea markets, restoring classic cars, pit bull dogs and hunting. Gary is survived by one daughter, Gaylene King of Pueblo, Colorado, three sons: Michael of Boulder, Rockie of Denver and Calvin of Johnstown. He has 3 grandchildren, 2 great–grandchildren, 5 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews, a sister, Laurel Zimmerschied of Cole Camp, MO and a brother, Joe of Greeley. He was loved and will be sorely missed by family and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Doris Lohnes.
