Obituary

Gayle Wesley Prottsman, 73 of Greeley, formerly of Haxtun passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado.

He was born on April 8, 1941 in Perkins County, Nebraska to Irl and Vada (Parker) Prottsman.

Gayle graduated from Venango High School in Venango, Nebraska in 1959. On April 12, 1969, he married his loving wife, Barbara Fagerstone at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. Together they moved to Haxtun, Colorado in 1977, and built a family and a home. They lived in Haxtun until moving to Greeley in 2011.

Mr. Prottsman owned and operated Current Electric in Haxtun. He was an active member of the Haxtun Berean Church. He had a strong, deep faith in God, which was very important to him. He also loved to spend time at Lake McConaughy with family and work on restoring his ’53 Mercury Montery. He was known as the iconic Corn Festival Clown for over 25 years, he was active in the community.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Prottsman; his daughter, Sherrie Derr; his son, Nathan and wife Heidi Prottsman; his brother, Byron Prottsman; and a grandson, Brody Prottsman.

Gayle is preceded in death by his parents, Irl and Vada Prottsman; his three brothers, Loran, Wayne and Glenn Prottsman; and his son-in-law, Jeff Derr.

A funeral service to celebrate Gayle’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Haxtun Bible Church. A reception for family and friends will be held immediately following the services. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Venango Cemetery in Venango, Nebraska.
