Obituary

George W. Whitley, C.P.A. of Greeley, Colorado, formerly of Denver, returned to the peace and comfort of his heavenly home on Friday, April 30, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather he has touched the hearts and lives of many during his lifetime of 84 years. George was born in Holyoke, CO, December 28, 1925 to George P. Whitley and Mary (Bender) Whitley, both deceased. George grew up in Booker, Texas, graduated from high school there and immediately reported for duty in the U.S. Army. He served in Germany during WW II. He graduated from Los Angeles State College, was employed by a C.P.A. firm in Denver, where he became a partner and was with the same firm, including a subsequent merger with McGladrey & Pullen, for 31 years. He retired in 1987 and continued to do limited consulting and accounting for several years. He was an active member of his church; the Denver Lion's Club and served on various boards and committees. George was married to Reva Mankey of Smith Center, Kansas. They have 2 married daughters, Phyllis Hallin of Frederick, CO and Donna Esterline of Highlands Ranch, CO. He is survived by his wife Reva, 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a brother Paul Whitley of Carrollton, TX and a niece and nephew. A memorial service to celebrate George's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the First Church of The Nazarene, 2515 W. 16th Street in Greeley. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Moser Funeral Service, 3501 S. 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620.
