Of Ginny Marie Vondy


Ginny Marie Vondy, 39, of Eaton, Colo., passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, following a courageous 2-year battle with Breast Cancer.
A Celebration of Ginny's Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton, 1325 3rd Street, in Eaton, Colo.
Ginny was born April 2, 1978, in Oklahoma City, and spent her early childhood years in Cheyenne. She was the youngest child of Mike and Barb (Bacon) Phillips, who moved their family to Fort Collins at the start of Ginny’s 1st Grade year. There, Ginny attended Beattie Elementary, Webber Jr. High, and Rocky Mountain High School. While in High School – Ginny was on the cheer leading squad and dance team – and also met and started dating the love of her life, Steven Vondy, their senior year.
Ginny and Steve both graduated in the RMHS class of 1996, and were married a year later on May 17, 1997. Their marriage of 20 years was a celebration of love, devotion, and care for one another.
A year after they were married, Ginny was blessed with the fulfillment of her lifelong dream of being a mom, when she gave birth to her first child, Jacob, in 1998.
Two years later, Ginny and Steve welcomed their second child, Nathan, and in 2001, moved their family of four to a house they built in Eaton, Colorado. Ginny felt privileged to be a stay at home mom with her babies, but also worked by doing in-home childcare during these years.
In 2002 Ginny was delighted to find out she was going to also get to have a baby girl – when their daughter, Mikayla was born. Just a year later, in 2003, their family of five became six – when their last little bundle of joy, Abigail, was born.
Ginny loved her husband and four children – even more than life itself. One of the last things she wrote down before she went to Heaven, was that, “My kids are my WORLD.” Everyone that knew Ginny knew this to be true. She volunteered in their schools, especially on class party days, and LIVED to see her kids play ball. Whether it was basketball, volleyball, cheer or baseball – watching her kids play was her number one hobby.
Ginny also loved movies – the movies ‘Home’ and ‘Annie’ were her all-time favorites – as well as time spent hanging out with her dear friends. She also had two beloved furry babies that she loved very much – her puppy dogs Bella and Princess.
Traveling with Steve and the kids was another joy in her life. They made many memorable trips together, including going to Montana, New Mexico, Omaha and Steamboat for team baseball trips.
Another memorable family trip the Vondy family got to take was going with Ginny’s parents and extended Phillips family on an epic tour of DisneyWorld – home to one of Ginny’s favorite childhood characters, Minnie Mouse.
Also in her childhood, Ginny and her family attended Meadowlark Church of Christ, where she accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized at the age of 12. Later in her married life, Ginny and Steve attended Timberline Church in Fort Collins, where her children were baptized and help in children’s ministry.
At the age of 37, Ginny and her family heard the dreadful news that she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of Breast Cancer. And even through the hardship of cancer treatment over the last two years of her life – Ginny remained committed to her faith, and trust that, “God’s plan is God’s plan.”
Ginny is survived by her husband, Steve Vondy, and their children, Jacob, Nathan, Mikayla and Abigail Vondy, her parents, Mike and Barb Phillips, of Fort Collins, brother, Chris Phillips, of Colorado Springs, brother Matt Phillips and wife Robin, of Wellington, sister Shannon Obrochta, of Pheonix, many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and cherished friends.
