Obituary

Gladys M. Hammond, 95, of Greeley, passed from earth to heaven on October 13, 2014, at Bonell Good Samaritan.

She was born to Eli and Mabel Fout on June 12, 1919, in Russells Point, Ohio. She grew up there with three sisters and four brothers.

On February 22, 1939, Gladys and Willis (Buzz) Hammond were married. He joined the Army Air Corps and became a pilot. They were transferred to many locations in the Air Force, including Germany, where Buzz flew the Berlin Airlift. After the war, they were stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, where he became a pilot instructor. They retired there. They couple had two daughters, Connie and Sandy. Buzz passed away February 9, 1976.

Gladys was a stay-at-home mom who loved yard work and flowers. She was known as an exceptional cook and baker.

Gladys accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age 69, and enjoyed actively participating in her church.

In 2006, Gladys moved to Greeley to be close to her daughter, Sandy. She made her home at Garden Square Assisted Living for 7 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buzz; her daughter, Connie; and all 7 of her brothers and sisters.

Survivors are her daughter, Sandy Wingard (Bob), her daughters, Kate (Xi) and Meg (Ashley) and great-granddaughter, Charlie Sophia.

A celebration of Gladys’ life and entrance into Heaven will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Faith Bible Baptist Church in Greeley.
