Born from the union of Ray Austin of Severance, and Wilma Pearl Austin(Blanchard) of Wellington, Gloria was a native daughter of Colorado, raised in both Eaton and Greeley. She was baptized into the body of Christ in 1958. She left high school prior to graduation, but later earned her GED and earned some college credits while a working mother. She married Wayne Burris of Gypsum, on September 20th, 1953. They had 3 sons, Timothy, Michael and Jamie. They were later divorced. Gloria worked at the Weld County General Hospital, now the Northern Colorado Medical Center, for 17 years as a nurse's assistant. She loved this work and made many friends, some of which remain to this day. After leaving the hospital, she also worked at the Greeley Medical Group, and the D.C. Royer Insurance Company. She also worked in the records department of the Greeley Police Department prior to her change of life. Her change of life occurred when she went to Hawaii for a dream vacation. It was an epiphany that changed her life. She decided to move to Hawaii, and did so in 1983, to the shock of most her family. She was on a quest. She had fallen in love with the island of Maui, and got a job as a gardener at a beautiful small motel on Napili bay. Eventually her diligence was recognized and she was promoted to Assistant Manager of the hotel, though she continued her green thumb ways on the hotel grounds. After 10 years on Maui, she decided to return to Colorado and worked as a real estate assistant for several agents, most notably The Group Inc. She is survived in death by 2 of her sons, Tim Burris of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mike Burris of Greeley, Colorado, a brother and sister in law Wes and Noreen Austin of Scottsdale, Arizona, sister and brother in law Vicki and Bill Robbins of Phoenix, Arizona, a sister and brother in law Marjorie and Ralph Aab of Greeley and 5 nephews and 1 niece. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Jamie, and her nephew Gary Aab. Per her request, Gloria will be cremated. Gloria would like to have special mention made of the contributions of Charlotte Lauridsen, Brenda Nickel and Julie Ferjanic - the Tres Amigas - who remained faithful friends, and eased the pain of her passing with their love and concern. Many other people reached out to her during the time of her infirmity. It was a special, loving gift from God to her. She would like everyone to know that she appreciated the efforts you made to support her, and is sorry because she was unable to respond to every loving wish. In the end, the spirit was willing, but the flesh was oh so weak. A memorial service to celebrate Gloria's life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 S. 11th Avenue in Evans. The family encourages those who attend to come with a spirit of joy, and to share with all of us your happy memories of what she meant to you. We will share a few tears, but we will also share laughter as we celebrate her life. This is her final wish for all of us, to be happy. In lieu of flowers, Gloria has requested that contributions be made to either the Hospice & Palliative Care of Northern Colroado or to the Weld County Food Bank, or Northern Colorado Youth For Christ in care of Moser Funeral Service, 3501 S. 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620. There will be plenty of flowers in Heaven, but the needy remain here onearth.
