Greta was born to Edith Anna Harbeson and William Madison Neff at their home on Seven Cross Hill Northeast of Briggsdale, Colorado on February 19, 1933. Horses, cars, and thrashing machines filled her childhood dryland days. Her family relocated to Galeton and then to Eaton where she graduated from Eaton High School.
She married Carlos Dean Jordan on August 22, 1955 at the Eaton United Methodist Church. They pulled a trailer and lived in California, Colorado, and Ohio, before settling down in Great Falls, Montana where the family was increased by the addition of their two children.
Following the death of her husband on March 11, 1962, Greta returned to Eaton to be close to her family. She studied to become a beautician and was employed by the Glemby Company at The Denver Dry Goods. In June of 1978, Greta and her business partner and friend Peggy Mariani opened the Fireside Salon where she enjoyed working with her colleagues and loved her clientele. She retired in 2005.
Greta believed in working hard and playing even harder. She always made time for family and fun. Weekends were filled with church followed by Sunday afternoon drives to either of the areas she held dear, drylands and mountains.
Greta loved to travel. She loaded up the kids and the car for the first family trip which was to California. Greta drove cars, vans, or campers from coast to coast exploring the highways and backroads across the United States. Her final family trip was a memorable cruise to Alaska.
Fishing with family was her favorite pastime. Caravans of campers and boats usually ended up somewhere in Wyoming for long weekends filled with lazy days on a lake, lots of good food, and plenty of fish stories.
Greta always had a dog. Her first faithful companion was Freckles; a rat terrier with a snarled tooth. Snuggles, her last rat terrier, became her constant companion, guard and protector following her stroke in 2012.
Greta’s life journey ended peacefully, comforted by her loving family on January 19, 2019 at North Colorado Medical Center following a struggle with pneumonia. Greta is survived by her son, Roger Jordan of Eaton and daughter, Deborah Jordan of Conifer (Susan Desch) and her grand-dogs Winnie, Dani, Bonnie and Betty. Greta is also survived by her lifelong friend, Mutsu Osaki of Greeley as well as sister in law Margie Schaefer of Bloomingburg, OH and brother in law Robert (Karen) Jordan of Tavares, FL as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Greta is preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Jordan; father, William Neff; mother, Edith (Harbeson) Neff; and all of her brothers George, Roy, Johnnie, Elmer, Orville, Kenneth, Ray and sisters Edna Henkel, Gladys Domesla, and Ila Wertz.
