Harley G. Baker, 77, of Evans, died on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the Centennial Health Care Center in Greeley. He was born on February 4, 1928 in Muncie, Indiana to Paul and Margaret (Harris) Baker. Mr. Baker married Betty Patterson in 1950 and she preceded him in death in 1975. He later married Peggy Baker in Denver in 1988 and she preceded him in death on January 27, 2005. Harley moved to Colorado from Muncie, Indiana with his mother in 1931. He later graduated from Gilcrest High School and later went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and the Coast Guard for 2 years during WWII and the Korean War. Harley and wife Betty owned and operated several business's in the Greeley and surrounding areas including Gambles Store in Ault and several donut shops including the Greeley Spudnut Shop which was the beginning of his career in the donut business. In 1985 he moved to Denver and owned donut and deli shop in the Denver area. He retired in 1991 and returned to Greeley. He later worked as a crossing guard @ Franklin Middle School and Madison Elementary for 8 years from 1996 until 2004. Harley was a past member of the Elks clubs in both Denver and Greeley and a life member of the Evans V.F.W.. Survivors include a son Randy and wife Kelley Baker of Greeley; a daughter, Carol Baker of Evans ; Grandchildren Todd and wife Lisa, Kelly, Alysa, Betty, Drew and Megan: Great Grandaughter due in Mar.2006; a brother, Max Baker of Greeley; a step brother, Harry Strohauer of LaSalle; a step sister, Dixie Walker of LaSalle and several other family members in the Greeley area. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the Greeley V.F.W. Post #2121, 2514 7th Avenue. Reception will be held immediately following the service.
