Harold "Hal" G. Geiss, 91 of Lakewood, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024, of natural causes.
He was born to Harold George and Helen (Pfoertner) Geiss on June 2, 1933, in Flushing, New York.
He graduated from Baldwin High School and went on to receive a degree in Theology from William Jewell College and later obtained 2 master's degrees in social work and psychology. He worked as a Lutheran minister, an Air Force Chaplain and a Psychotherapist.
Hal married Audrey Gartelmann in 1959 in Baldwin, New York and to that union their 4 children were born: Timothy, Cynthia, Linda, and Katharine. He married Nancy Kerr in 1987 and became a step-father to her two children, Richard and Susan.
Hal started his career as a Lutheran pastor of a congregation in Hamburg, New York and moved his growing family to lead a new congregation in Buffalo. He joined the Air Force in 1966 becoming a career military man with 18 years in the USAF and finished his service as a Colonel in the National Guard. He is a veteran of the Vietnam and 1st Gulf Wars. After leaving the Air Force, Hal received 2 master's degrees and began offering therapy services enhanced through his work as a minister.
Hal was an avid golfer, a Denver Broncos and Avalanche fan. He was a lifelong learner of the arts, photography, sports, languages and travel. Hal loved discussing philosophy, theology and the meaning of life with anyone and everyone and spent long evenings with friends answering life's questions.
He is survived by his spouse, Nancy Geiss, a son, Tim Geiss, stepson, Richard Kerr, daughters, Cynthia Masuda, Linda Naill, and Katharine Geiss, a stepdaughter, Susan Kerr, 8 grandchildren: Emily, Shelby, John, Zachary, Claire, Megan, Charlee, and Brittany, and 4 great grandchildren: Ciara, Sabrina, Victoria and Augustus.
He was preceded by his parents, Harold and Helen Geiss and his sister, Marion Geiss.
A private graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
