Obituary

Herbert C. Hoyland Jr., 83 of Greeley, died on Friday, August 7, 2009 at the Fairacres Manor Nursing Home. He was born on October 12, 1925 to Herbert C. and Mildred (McKinley) Hoyland. Herb married Dorothy A. VanHecke on June 21, 1947 in SanDiego, California. They have lived in Greeley since 1978. Mr. Hoyland served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 until 1960 during WWII and the Korean War. He worked for Central Homes, the City of Greeley and later he worked for School District 6 until his retirement. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greeley and the Evans V.F.W. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Hoyland; his daughter and her husband, Gail and Eldon Knudson of Custer, South Dakota; 4 sons and their wives, Don and Ava Hoyland, Jeff & Carolee Hoyland, David and Melanie Hoyland and Ken & Kathy Hoyland all of Greeley; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a sister, Sharon Dugan of California. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Mildred Hoyland and his brother, John Ernest Hoyland. A memorial service to celebrate Herb's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1865 14th Avenue in Greeley. His urn will be interred at a later date with full military honors in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. Memorial gifts may be made to the Herb Hoyland Memorial Fund in care of Moser Funeral Service, 3501 S. 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620.
