Genevieve I. "Gen" Johnson, 94, of LaSalle, Colorado formerly of Negaunee, Michigan, died on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Fairacres Manor Nursing Home in Greeley.
She was born on February 8, 1912 in Negaunee, Michigan to Warren & Grace (Parrot) Thomas. She attended Negaunee High School and graduated in 1930.
Gen married Melvin Johnson on February 6, 1935 in Negaunee, Michigan. He preceded her in death in 1997. The couple lived in Negaunee since 1955 and she moved to LaSalle to be near her daughter in 1998.
Mrs. Johnson was a past member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Negaunee. She was an active member of various service clubs and the Negaunee Seniors. She was also known as an active Republican who loved to play cards and spend her winters in Arizona. She was a homemaker for most of her married life. When she worked outside of the home she worked for her uncle Haze as a cashier as well as for Tommy's Buy Rite as a "Jack of all trades." She also worked for the I.G.A. in Negaunee in the bakery.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith A. Davenport of LaSalle; 2 grandsons and their wives, Bob & Rose Campain of Westminster, Colorado and Drs. Jim & Julie Campain of Windsor, Colorado; 6 great grandchildren, Morgen and Jacob Campain of Westminster, Marisa, Joey, and twins, Annie & Genna Campain, all of Windsor, Colorado. She also has 1 great great granddaughter, Hailey Romero of Westminster. In addition to her husband Melvin, she is preceded in death by her parents, Grace Thomas in 1955 and Warren Thomas in 1968 and her sister, Shirley Groark in 1992.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Spring at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Negaunee. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
