Jack William Sabas, 89, of Greeley, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Fairacres Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on October 25, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to John Francis and Grace Helen (Hays)Sabas. He graduated from Steinman High School in Chicago.
Mr. Sabas married Verl “Jean” Kehlenbach on November 13, 1954 in Peru, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He served in the Korean War and earned rank of Corporal. Served in the
Army Reserves from 1953-1956. Following his time in the military he served as a police officer for most of his career for the University of Illinois, Chicago Campus. He established the first “Officer Friendly” program for the University of Illinois, State of Illinois.
Jack attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Greeley. He loved to golf and was an animal lover, especially his Westie, Miss Sara.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Sabas of Greeley; 2 daughters, Michele (James) Wagner of Lyons, Illinois and Susan Sabas of Greeley; his son, Michael John (Marie) Sabas of Addison, Illinois; 2 grandchildren, Jennifer (Ronnie) Derengowski and Karen (John) Krestan and 2 great grandchildren, Charlotte Krestan and Hudson Derengowski. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Sabas.
Services begin with Recitation of Rosary at 11:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. both on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2222 23rd Avenue in Greeley.
