James Edward Armstrong, age 76, of Birchwood Manor in Greeley, Co, born to Archie Franklin and Golda Mae (Clearwater) Armstrong, January 12, 1937, at Lake City, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2013, at Bonell Good Samaritan Center after a series of illnesses and kidney failure. He was a Veteran of the US Army, and a real trooper to the end of his days. Jim was also a twenty-four year cancer survivor.
James married Judith A. Lynn, of Stuart, Iowa, January 11, 1960. To this union were born five children: Richard of Lincoln, NE, William of Inverness, FL, Rex of Greeley,CO, Ben of Windsor, and Katheryn (Kathy) of Berthoud Living Center in Berthoud, CO.
Jim worked as a farmhand during the earlier part of his life, but after moving to Colorado in 1968, worked for Bucklens at Greeley Sand and Gravel, and for Best Way Paving of Greeley for nearly thirty years. In 2000, after retirement, Jim worked as a phone promoter for Cerebral Palsy of Colorado.
He loved music, singing and playing his tamborine at church. and loved the Lord with all his heart, soul and strength. He loved camping and fishing, playing Pacxon and Luxor on the computer, and taking long drives in the hills. Jim enjoyed helping people when he could, and was a happy, positive, caring man, and a dear friend to many, and will be sorely missed.
James was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Jane and Dora Ellen, and a brother, Frankie, (who died at age five), his son Richard, and Richard's three month old baby, Jeremy.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; three sons, William, Rex, Ben, and daughter Kathy, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, two neices, Gerry and Diane, and nephew, Steven.
A memorial service is planned for this Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Birchwood Senior Apartments, 2830 w 27th St. Lane, Greeley. (3 blocks west of the ARC store, park where you can). Refreshments to follow. Reverend Daryl Dannar will officiate. Any donations may be made to Moser Funeral Services of Evans.
