Janice Jeanne Ricker of Glen Haven, Colorado passed away July 31, 2023. She was born April 9, 1944, to Frederick and Gladys (Petrie) Ricker in Minnesota.
Jan came home to Colorado when she purchased her property in The Retreat in Glen Haven, Colorado, in October of 1994 where she had her dream mountain home built. She loved living in her piece of "Haven" and like a lot of us, leaving to go to the valley as little as possible, preferring to spend her time in nature and on the mountain.
Nature was a reoccurring theme in Jan's life. She loved gardening, flowers and keeping exact records of flower, bird, and critter sightings. She recorded when the first hummingbirds showed for the year, when our bluebirds left on migration, and the first Pasque flowers of the season.
Besides her love of plants, both inside and outside of her home, she was passionate about the Estes Valley. She served as director of the Estes Valley Land Trust at one time and was instrumental in securing accreditation. She wanted to make a difference and preserve our valley. She registered her own 13 acres with the Land Trust to help preserve our beautiful slice of paradise for future generations.
She loved animals, and most recently her dog companions, Chi-Chi, Bohni, Teddy and Tiger. She was a good friend and neighbor and her life touched many.
Jan moved to Glen Haven from Hopkins, Minnesota. She was involved in research for Pillsbury. She graduated from the University of Minnesota. Her parents were both deceased as well as her beloved aunt, Helen Hondius of Estes Park. Jan was 79 upon her passing.
