Jean Marie Austin, 90, formerly of LaSalle, CO, passed away peacefully Monday, April 13, 2026, at The Lodge at Greeley following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Ault, CO, to Marion and Thelma Schnepf, Jean grew up a true spirit of the West who loved riding horses and living life full throttle. She married Robert Dale Austin on May 17, 1955, and together they raised their two children, Debbie and Butch.

Jean worked for over 20 years at United Bank and later at Pete Mirich Elementary. A passionate family historian, she spent her free time gardening or camping and fishing in her beloved Rocky Mountains and always had her camera on hand. She was known for being fiercely loyal, independent, and delightfully feisty.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; daughter, Debra Boettcher; and siblings, Bonnie and Bob. She is survived by her son, Robert “Butch” Austin Jr.; her brother Bill, sister-in-law Barbara Austin (Dale), son-in-law, Bill Boettcher; four grandchildren, Will, Zach (Nicole), Sarah and Eric; and four great-grandchildren, Oliver, James, Lily and Jack as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A family celebration of her life will be held sometime this summer at her favorite spot in the mountains. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the “Jean Austin Memorial Fund” in care of Moser Funeral and Cremation Service at 3501 11th Avenue, Evans CO 80620. This fund will be used for Jean’s great-grandchildren’s college funds. She will make a heckuva guardian angel.
