Susan Jean Scoggin, lovingly known to family and friends as Jean, passed away at the age of 81 on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Jean was born on July 7, 1945, in Greeley, Colorado, to H. Keith Early and Doris Early. Throughout her life, she was known for her remarkable work ethic, quick wit, and unique sense of humor that brought smiles to those around her.

Jean built a career that reflected her determination and versatility. She worked in restaurant management, Woodward Governor, Engineering Measurements Company, in real estate, RV sales and service, owned her own RV parts store, and later worked with American National Insurance. Whatever role she took on, she approached it with dedication, professionalism, and pride.

Above all, Jean treasured her family. She found great joy in spending time with those she loved and expressed that love through the many beautiful quilts and handmade gifts she created over the years. She also enjoyed reading, wandering through hardware stores, fishing, and competing in dart and bowling leagues for many years. Her creativity, generosity, and spirit left lasting memories for everyone who knew her.

Jean is survived by her children, Kathryn Bafia (Keith Specht), Sandra Merritt (Darwin), James Johnson (Linda Tyler), and Eric Johnson (Gwynne). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Zack Merritt, Mike Merritt, Mathew Johnson, and Atticus Johnson, as well as five cherished great-grandsons. She is also survived by her siblings, Kay Stout, Jerry Early (Marilyn), Dick Early (Gwen), and Ross Early; sister-in-law, Cheryl Early; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, H. Keith Early and Doris Early; her son, Warren Scoggin; her brother, Kip Early; and brother-in-law Terry Stout.

Jean will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her incredible strength, her tireless work ethic, and the laughter she shared so freely. The quilts she stitched, the gifts she lovingly made, and the countless memories she created will continue to comfort those who loved her. Her legacy lives on in her family and in the lives she touched through her kindness, resilience, and unmistakable sense of humor.

Graveside inurnment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 W 28th Street in Greeley. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 11th Avenue in Evans.
