Jeffrey Charles Powell, 59, of Greeley, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023, at North Colorado Medical Center.

Jeff was born on September 27, 1963, in Smithville, Missouri to Charles (deceased) and Georgia (Hoskins) Powell. He graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1982. His high school years were filled with DECA, working at Sportsworld, and lots of friends.

During the summer of 1979, Jeff went on a mission trip to Bolivia, living in the jungle for 3 months. This made a lifelong impact on him, and he told the stories of this experience over and over.

On July 5, 1984, Jeff's life was forever changed when he was in a diving accident that left him a quadriplegic. Jeff became an expert at conquering life's obstacles. He was constantly finding new ways to accomplish daily tasks.

In 1991, Jeff joined The Colorado Highlanders Wheelchair Athletic Club, playing wheelchair rugby. A perfect outlet for all of his pinned-up energy. His team qualified for Nationals 5 years in a row. Jeff was named "Rookie of the year" (1991), and MVP for 2 national appearances. In 1996, Jeff was asked to play on the USA team for quad rugby and traveled to New Zealand for this competition and honor. He played rugby for 8 years, traveling with different teams and making lifelong friends.

Jeff was an avid volunteer for the Youths in Wheelchairs summer program in Denver, Colorado.

Jeff loved his dogs above all else, they were his children, and went everywhere with him. Secondly Jeff loved people. He surrounded himself with friends and family. He found great joy in helping and befriending those in need. Jeff was a past member of The First United Presbyterian Church which is now Cornerstone Community Church.

He is survived by his loving parents Rob and Georgia Robins, his two sisters, Tammy Harris (Rich), and Julie Yoder (Warren), and a brother Scott Robins (Cheryl), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Powell, sister, Jill Powell Brown, and grandparents, Helen and Buford Powell and Mack and Frances Hoskins.

A memorial service to celebrate Jeff's life will be held at 1:00pm, September 27,2023, at the Cornerstone Community Church, 1321 9th Avenue in Greeley.
