Joe A. Romero, 82 of LaSalle, Colorado died on October 8, 2009 at the Life Care Center in Greeley.
He was born on October 24, 1926 in Severance, Colorado to Joe G. and Mary (Duran) Romero. They later moved to rural LaSalle. He lived and farmed in the LaSalle area for most of his life.
Joe married Angelina Leyba on January 3, 1954 in Greeley. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Tank Commander at the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Lighthouse Community Church in LaSalle.
Joe was a wonderful husband, loving father, and the best Grandpa ever. He always shared his pride in his family and set a consistent Godly example for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Angelina Romero of LaSalle, 2 daughters and their husbands, Linda and Doug Shaffer of Kersey and Darline and David Miner of Brush; a son and his wife, Robert and Teresa Romero of LaSalle; 4 grandchildren, Angela Shaffer, Cody Shaffer, Sarah Romero and Nathaniel Miner; 3 sisters, Jane Bedan of LaSalle, Ruth Wood of Arvada and Janet Miller of Kersey; 3 brothers, Leo Romero and Clyde Romero of LaSalle and Dr. Lloyd Romero of Lexington, Mass. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe G. and Mary Romero and a brother, Gilbert Romero.
A funeral service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Lighthouse Community Church, 307 S. 3rd Street in LaSalle. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 S. 11th Avenue in Evans. Military honors will be provided at the cemetery with his granddaughters, Angela and Sarah performing Echo Taps.
