John Lester Baker's Obituary
John L. Baker, 86, of Chugwater, Wyoming, passed away on June 27, 2019 at his home.
He was born on December 16, 1932 in Wheatland, Wyoming to Lester and Martha Ann (Ayers) Baker.
John graduated from Chugwater High School in 1951. He later attended the University of Wyoming where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Ag Business and later earned a Master of Science degree in Ag Econ in 1960. He was a dryland wheat farmer in Wyoming for most of his life.
Mr. Baker married Irma A. Hester in Wheatland, Wyoming on March 31, 1956.
He was a member of the Wyoming Wheat Growers, the NRA, the Platte County School Board, the Weed and Pest Board, the Studebaker Drivers Club, the Model A Ford Club of America, the Chugwater Gun Club, and the Chugwater Historical Unity Group.
Survivors include his 2 daughters, Deb Ross (Steve) and Karen Shattuck (Bob) both of Cheyenne, 3 grandchildren, Kevin Ross (Amy), Travis Ross (Christy), Jessica Angell, and 7 great grandchildren, Ainslie Ross, Taylor Ross, Kaitlyn Ross, Cobie Ross, Jasmine Angell, Cylas Angell, and Madisyn Angell. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Martha Baker, his wife, Irma Baker in 2017 and a sister, Charlotte Baker.
Graveside services to celebrate John’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the Chugwater Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made in John’s name to the Chugwater Senior Center and the Chugwater Museum.
