John Brent Bernhardt, 61, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

John was born on October 19, 1964, to Mike Bernhardt and Evelyn Stienbach. He grew up alongside his two brothers, Scott (Janet, Kelsy, and Macky) of Denver and Greg of Denver.

Evelyn later married Donald “Donnie” Shaffer, who brought four children into the family. Together, they raised six boys and one girl, creating a blended family that included Davi Jo (Shawn and Alyssa), Bryon, Brad (Mandy and Barrett), and Melissa (James, Elise, Avy).

John fought a courageous battle against a rare disease. Throughout his life, he took pride in his work, driving trucks for Shaffer Trucking and learning to operate heavy equipment. Of all the things he enjoyed, working with bees held a special place in his heart.

John leaves behind his beloved wife, Rosalind; his daughter, Haelie Marie; his mother, Evelyn, and stepfather, Don Shaffer; his three brothers and sister; and their families.

He is preceded in death by siblings

John was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on through the family he loved, the work he took pride in, and the moments shared with those closest to him. He will be especially missed by his daughter, Haelie Marie, who held a very special place in his life.

John’s final message to his daughter, “I am proud of the woman you have become. Never forget how far you have come. I love you.”
