Obituary

John Edward Bowness II, 70, of Eaton, Colorado, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, after a long battle with renal cell carcinoma since 2004.

He was born in Fort Collins to William A. and Lorene (Jensen) Bowness. He grew up in Missouri and attended college at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where he became an avid Husker fan. He was a resident of Eaton for over 44 years.

He married Karla (Hall), the love of his life, in 1978. They have 3 children, John III (Amy) of Greeley, CO, Sarah (Travis) Rogers of Stanberry, MO, and Kimberly (Garrett) Walker of Montrose, CO. He loved his grandchildren – Winter, TJ, Alexis and Taylor Rogers, Addelyn and John IV (the Biz) Bowness, and Gentry (Grizz) and Silas Walker. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn (Mike, dec.) Hamm of Maryville, MO; sister-in-law, Kim (Doug) Hutt of Dallas, TX; and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by close family friends, Zac and Shannon Hoover and their children, Katherine, William, and Kennedy of Salt Lake City, UT.

John served as Moderator of the First Congregational Church of Eaton/Ault and Elder at Eaton Community Church. He and his family owned and operated The Eaton Bank from 1981-1992 and, most recently, proudly served as Vice President with Farmers Bank in Ault for over 19 years. He also served as President of Eaton Country Club, served on the board of Independent Bankers of Colorado, and was a founding member of Eaton SERTOMA Club. One of John's greatest joys was to sing in the Someday Quartet for over 20 years along with Barry Anderson (dec.), John Sutter and Don Cadwallader with Shelly Cadwallader accompanying.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother; his father-in-law, Bill Hall; and mother-in-law, Phyllis Marlene Hall.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Eaton Community Church, 1561 Benjamin Dr, Eaton, CO, with a reception held at Eaton Country Club immediately thereafter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's memory to the Eaton Community Church, Northern Colorado Christian Academy or any organization that promotes His kingdom.
